Junaid Family Foundation: Empowering Vulnerable Populations Through Sports and Beyond
The Junaid Family Foundation (JFF), a partner of Thaze Competition, shares the team’s commitment to excellence and a passion for making a positive impact. Established in 2021 by Ansir Junaid and his wife Sufia, JFF focuses on empowering people of any population through sports and promotes health, community, and diversity. Whether it be participating in an international event, or sponsoring a local tournament, JFF wants people of all ages, genders, and nationalities to feel the community that sporting events bring to people. Sports and competition are a universal language that builds camaraderie, breaks gender stereotypes, and promotes inclusivity.
“The Foundation focuses on four pillars: healthcare, education, equity & diversity, and civic engagement,” explains Ansir Junaid, Chairman and Trustee of JFF. “We create programs and also give out grants to organizations doing great work within our focus areas.”
One of JFF’s most impactful programs is a large-scale humanitarian effort in Pakistan. “We have donated over 2 million bottles of Multiple Micronutrient Supplements (MMS), worth over $5 million, to Pakistan so far,” says Junaid. “MMS is a multivitamin that contains 15 essential vitamins and minerals which help improve both maternal and child birth outcomes.”
The partnership with Thaze Competition offers the Junaid Family Foundation a unique platform to amplify their message. “Racing has been a lifelong passion,” says Junaid, Chairman and Trustee of JFF. “The chance to promote the Foundation on a large stage like the IMSA event was an easy decision. It provided the perfect synergy to showcase our commitment to sports, leading up to the 2024 Pan American Masters Games in Cleveland, Ohio – a major event for our community.” By aligning with Thaze at these races, JFF hopes to raise significant awareness for their important work.
Thaze Competition Delivers Podium Finishes
On track, Thaze Competition delivered a thrilling performance. In Saturday’s race, seasoned driver Eddie Killeen took the wheel of his #37 Mercedes-AMG GT4, however, his pursuit of victory in the first race was cut short by a competitor’s collision, forcing him out of contention.
Meanwhile, young gun Josh Green, piloting the #78 Mercedes-AMG GT4, showcased his talent. Starting from third on the grid, Green immediately challenged for the lead. Unfortunately, contact with another car early in the race knocked out the alignment, hindering his car’s performance. Despite the setback, Green displayed grit and determination, bringing home a hard-fought second-place finish – the team’s best result to date. Following the race, the team celebrated Green’s achievement with invited VIP guests, solidifying the positive momentum.
The second race saw Green pick up where he left off. Launching into the lead from the start, Green dominated the early stages. However, a lapped car presented an obstacle late in the race, allowing the second-place car to capitalize and take the lead. Green ultimately crossed the finish line in a strong second position. Meanwhile, Killeen exhibited flashes of exceptional pace but was hampered by a spin in the track’s fastest corner, ultimately finishing 12th.
The event also served as an opportunity for Thaze Competition to connect with a broader audience. The team played host to an impressive ninety guests, including those invited by Eddie Killeen, the Junaid Family Foundation, and Zimperium, one of Josh Green’s long-time sponsors.
Josh Green, Driver (#78): “It was a challenging weekend, but I’m incredibly proud of the team and grateful for the support of Zimperium and Junaid Family Foundation. We faced some adversity in both races, but we never gave up. The second-place finishes are a testament to the team’s dedication and the incredible performance of the Mercedes-AMG GT4s. I’m looking forward to building on this momentum going into our next race in Canada.”
Eddie Killeen, Driver (#37): “It’s frustrating to have my race end prematurely on Saturday. The #37 car had great pace, and I was confident in a strong finish, but that’s racing. I’m happy for Josh’s podium finishes and the overall team performance. We’ll be back stronger for the next race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.”
Ansir Junaid, Chairman and Trustee, Junaid Family Foundation: “Thaze Competition continues to impress. The team’s spirit of perseverance and commitment to excellence aligns perfectly with the Junaid Family Foundation’s mission. Witnessing the excitement generated by this weekend’s races further validates our support for the team and the sport as a whole.”
Faisal Ahmad, Co-Team Principal: “Hosting ninety guests this weekend was a wonderful opportunity to showcase Thaze Competition and the excitement of the VP Racing Challenge. We’re dedicated to building a strong connection with our community and fostering a passion for motorsports. The energy from our guests was truly inspiring, and we look forward to welcoming them back for future events.”
Brian Makse, Co-Team Principal: “This was a fantastic weekend for Thaze Competition. Entering two cars for the first time presented new challenges, but the team rose to the occasion beautifully. Josh’s podium finishes are well-deserved, and Eddie’s raw pace demonstrates the strength of our driver lineup. We’re incredibly grateful for the support of our sponsors and partners, especially those who joined us at Mid-Ohio.”
